[2009-04-09] Oloid available for 3D printing

Sam and Tom Ettinger made my day this morning when they e-mailed me an .STL version of my oloid POV-Ray mesh. I had tried a couple of freeware/open source .POV -> .STL converters with no luck; each of them resulted in an .STL file that was rejected by the shapeways servers. Apparently Tom wrote his own parser to perform the conversion, and it worked like a champ. The resulting solid is available for printing at Shapeways now. This is the only place I know of that you can get a solid oloid designed to have a constant center of gravity as it rolls. A cheaper, half-size version is also available.
